Accessibility to Athletics

In March 2025, The DKJ Memorial Foundation was proud to partner with Special Olympics Utah to remove barriers faced by youth with IDD, including limited access to sports, social isolation, stigma, and unmet health needs, by promoting their full participation in the 2025 Summer Games.

The 2025 Summer Games achieved significant outcomes.
• 80 youth with IDD participated in an athletic competition, improving physical health and fitness.
• 80 youth received free transportation, lodging, meals, and uniforms.
• Caregivers received support through lodging and meals, reducing barriers to participation.
• More than 300 family members and supporters engaged in event activities, strengthening community connections.
• Over 100 volunteers, 12 clinical directors, 100 medical students, and 150 coaches and chaperones supported program delivery.
• Athletes received critical health screenings, many for the first time, leading to referrals and improved long-term health outcomes.
• Participants consistently reported increased self-confidence, independence, and social engagement.
